From Sugar Burner to Fat Burner: It’s Not Just About Your Waistline

The key to becoming a Fat Burner is simply to stop consuming sugar, alcohol and carbohydrates all the time and to replace those empty calories with nutritious and super efficient fuel: quality proteins and healthy fats.

The transition from “Sugar Burner” to “Fat Burner” can be a little unpleasant. Many people undergo a period of “Carb Flu”, experiencing symptoms like fatigue and irritability. But it’s worth it. It only lasts a couple of days, and afterwards you’ll feel great. You’ll have more energy than you’ve ever remembered. You’ll be renewed.

We’ve already covered the details of the Sugar Burner Cycle, but let’s do a quick revision:

What Happens When You Burn Sugar

Being a Sugar Burner means

  • When blood glucose levels are excessive, the pancreas produces insulin to remove it
  • Excess glucose is stored in the liver and in the muscles in the form of glycogen
  • When the liver and muscles are full, the excess glucose is transformed into triglycerides (fat) and is stored in the cells
  • When the cells are full they become Insulin Resistant
  • Insulin Resistance causes the pancreas to produce even more insulin
  • When insulin is high, the pancreas can’t release glucagon, the hormone which releases fat from the cells
  • When insulin pulls glucose out of the bloodstream, it causes blood sugar levels to drop, and the body/brain thinks it’s dying from lack of energy and nutrients
  • The body/brain manipulates you to eat because you’re starving: only carbohydrates can satisfy the craving, because the body can’t burn fat
  • The newly consumed carbohydrates raise blood glucose levels again, resulting in the production of more insulin, which removes glucose from the blood, which leaves the body/brain without energy … and the cycle continues
  • Leptin Resistance further complicates things, making you both hungry and lethargic all the time
  • All this is interpreted by the body/brain as a high state of stress
  • The stress hormone, cortisol, is released to combat the stress
  • Cortisol causes more fat to be stored
  • The negative consequences of all this include high blood pressure, high blood triglyceride levels, Chronic Systemic Inflammation, etc.

Why would anyone want to do that to themselves when the alternative – becoming a Fat Burner – is so easy and so beneficial?

What Happens When You Burn Fat

Being a Fat Burner means

  • You’ll feel full for longer, you won’t need to eat every two hours, no hunger, no irritability, no brain fog
  • Your body will continue to burn carbohydrates for high intensity activities like sprinting, strength training, and heart-pounding activities that make you sweat
  • Your body will burn fat for the low intensity situations that make up most of the day: walking, doing housework, gardening, playing
  • You can skip meals without anxiety or depression
  • All round health is optimized because the network of problems caused by an excess of carbohydrates, sugars and alcohol is non-existant.

And the additional bonus, as you can see from all the “Before and After” photos posted on Social Media, is that Fat Burners “Look Good Naked”… with very little effort!

Shift Your Metabolism from Sugar Burner to Fat Burner

It can’t be repeated often enough: burning fat instead of carbohydrates is the natural and healthy state for homo sapiens.

Transforming your metabolism from Sugar Burner to Fat Burner and maintaining it in this state is essential for long term health.

Eating healthy fats does not cause weight gain. Eating saturated fat does not cause high cholesterol levels. Healthy fats and cholesterol are good, not evil.

The truth is that most health problems are caused by Chronic Systemic Inflammation, which you can read about in the posts which follow.
